Ghanaians on social media have descended heavily on Nigerian Chef, Hilda Baci, after she referred to one of the country’s favorite dish, “Jollof,” as not “flavourful.”https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OvIXULCR4qs

The Chef made her first visit to the United Kingdom recently and while speaking on a podcast expressed her disappointment at Ghanaian Jollof, calling it unflavorful.

According to Hilda, Nigerian Jollof is better than Ghana’s because it lacks flavour.

“Nigerian Jollof is better than Ghanaian Jollof. I’ve been to Ghana, I’ve eaten their Jollof. I’ve done  a competition with a Ghanaian chef. For him, that was his best representation of Ghanaian Jollof and I have seen the recipe, not one…,” she expressed.

“Let me tell you because I wasn’t there and I don’t have a lot of information so I can’t say why this is but with Nigerian Jollof, Nigerians don’t play about flavour building. We’re very intentional about building flavour,” she stated.

Explaining why she thinks Nigerian Jollof is better, Hilda stated;

“Ghanaians tend to make their Jollof rice…the major base is more the paste than the Jollof mix which is what you make yourself and that goes a long way in ensuring that the flavour comes out great. Ghanaians don’t smoke their Jollof rice.”

Hilda’s comments made it to Twitter, and her Ghanaian fans have expressed their disappointment at her comments.

According to some users, they expected more from the Chef since they rallied behind and supported her in her quest to becoming a Guinness World Record holder.
