<![CDATA[ A group of Ghanaian female celebrities have been selected for a campaign aimed at tackling the high rate of Cervical Cancer in the country. Nana Ekua Asanteba Mensah and Zenaida Morrison of Viasat 1, Sherifa Gunu, Gloria Sarfo, Roselyn Ngissah, and Agnes Ntow are collaborating with The Kultiva Group and the Cervical Cancer Unit of the Ridge Hospital to educate, screen and create public awareness of the disease. The exercise is themed, “what every woman should know”, and falls under the ‘Every Woman 2013’ project, which comes off at the Regimanuel Grey Golden Gate Club house, Spintex on May 12. This is the first ever women empowerment programme by the Kultiva Group. It will address issues surrounding the health of Ghanaian woman, specifically the subject of cervical cancer. The event is jointly supported by the Cervical Cancer/Paps Smear Centre of the Ridge Hospital, Accra. Cervical cancer occurs when a virus called the human papilloma virus invades the cells in the cervix. It can usually be diagnosed at an early stage through a Pap test. In Ghana, the World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that out of 3038 women diagnosed with cervical cancer yearly, 2006 have died from the disease, representing 80 per cent. Evidently, it is alarmingly claiming the lives of most innocent Ghanaian women because of low awareness and lack of information. Regrettably, the scope of health related programmes seems to be silent on this disease hence the response of THE KULTIVA GROUP. It is expected about (100) out of over two hundred (200) participants shall be educated and screened for free. Partakers shall range from Policy and lawmakers, civil society, stakeholders in the health sector, philanthropists and other interested individuals. The event is open to the general public, the organizers have said. ]]>
