Golden Baobab (a pan-African literary NGO) in partnership with the International Board of Books for Young people Ghana (IBBY Ghana) has made a presentation to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH) Children’s Ward. The presentation consisted of over two hundred African children’s books, furniture set and a colorful bookcase for the playrooms on the second and third floors of the children’s block. Golden Baobab’s Executive Director, Deborah Ahenkorah, made the formal presentation at Korle Bu and emphasized the importance of ensuring that young children have access to children’s books, which reflect their cultural identities. Ms. Ahenkorah explained Golden Baobab’s vision as creating a world filled with wonder and possibility, one African children’s story at a time and stated that Golden Baobab looks forward to partnering with organizations who want to see this vision and many such projects come to fruition in countries all over Africa. Prof. Bamenla Goka, Head of Child Health at KBTH, received the donation on behalf of the children’s department and expressed her hope that children, especially those who stayed in the wards for extended periods of time, would find enjoyment in taking full advantage of the donated African children’s books. The project was made possible through the kind support of the Ghana Book Development Council (GBDC), Smartline Publishers, Sub-Saharan Publishers and African Christian Press.]]>
