Google Africa’s Alex Okosi Recognised With “Iconic Pioneer Award” For Substantial Contributions To Africa’s Entertainment and Media Landscape

In an exclusive ceremony at the Eko Hotel and Suites in Victoria Island, Lagos, Silverbird Group recognised Alex Okosi, the Managing Director of Google in Africa, alongside other exemplary leaders for its 2023 Silverbird Man of The Year Awards.

Alex Okosi, who claimed the coveted Iconic Pioneer Award, is known for his outstanding leadership in the media and technology sectors, received the accolade for his groundbreaking contributions, innovative vision, and pioneering efforts. The Iconic Pioneer Award is a testament to Alex Okosi’s profound impact on the industry, highlighting his commitment to driving innovation and transformative change.

Speaking on why Alex was awarded, “‘Great people do simple things that turn out great. To be great you must know how to dream. Alex dreams and he makes his dreams come true and the continent has over the decades benefited from it, hence the Iconic Pioneer Award. We’re excited to see everything else that Alex will achieve.”

The awards ceremony, held on Sunday, March 3, 2024, saw Prince Dapo Abiodun, the Executive Governor of Ogun State, being honoured as the Silverbird Man of the Year. Other notable recipients included Sherrif Oborevwori, Governor of Delta State, who received the Governor of the Year Award, and Similinaya Fubara, the Executive Governor of Rivers State, presented with the 2023 Silverbird Peace Advocate Award.

Acknowledging achievements across various sectors, Funke Akindele and Linda Ikeji were recipients of the Silverbird Special Achievement Awards. Tom Adaba, former NBC DG, and entertainment promoter Ken Olumese were honoured with the Silverbird Lifetime Achievement Awards.

Chief( Dr) Innocent Chukwuma OFR, the Chairman and CEO of the Innoson group, was recognized as the Silverbird Manufacturer of the Year. The 2023 Silverbird Financial Institution of the Year Award was bestowed upon the National Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Broadcasted globally through satellite and terrestrial signals on Silverbird’s television network, News 24, and partner stations, the event showcased Nigeria’s outstanding individuals and organisations. The Silverbird Man of The Year Awards spotlight those who have made a lasting impact on the nation’s cultural, political, and economic landscape.

Alex Okosi’s triumph with the Iconic Pioneer Award underscores his influential role in shaping the entertainment and media landscape across Africa and solidifies his position as a trailblazer in the industry. Speaking at the event, Alex thanked the organisers for the honour and congratulated other award recipients present.

Recently appointed the Managing Director of Google Africa, Okosi is responsible for leading Google’s vision, fostering partnerships, and advancing cutting-edge technologies on the continent. Okosi’s distinguished career spans over 25 years with significant accomplishments including being a key catalyst in transforming music and content space in Africa through the launch and growth of brands like MTV Base, Comedy Central, BET and Nickelodeon in Africa.
