2018 was the big year for celebrity weddings. We watched actress Bibi Bright walk down the aisle with her sweetheart Akwasi Boateng. Guests included Toosweet Annan, James Gardiner and Princess Shyngle.

Then of course there was the traditional ceremony of Sarkodie and his bride Tracey in Tema. These wedding parties were well documented in the press and already influencing the styles and fashions throughout Ghana. So how else can you take inspiration from these weddings and make sure that your party is one to remember?

A Casino Themed Party

A casino themed party means that your guests are fully involved, enjoying all the excitement of Las Vegas – they will feel like celebrities. The focus is on the games, you don’t even have to exchange money, or if you do, you could consider doing it for charity. Great inspiration for your casino party is the newly opened La Palm Casino in Accra which attracts that rich and famous across the country. You could include poker, blackjack and roulette, along with a sophisticated buffet for your guests. A casino party will make it a wedding to remember.

White and sophisticated

Of course Ameyaw Debra’s wedding was extremely sophisticated and the color scheme meant that the party looked amazing. Using white, with a simple contrasting bright color like yellow will give your wedding celebration a classic look. It is also a great way of uniting two families through clothes. A beautiful white wedding will never go out of fashion and you will look back on the photos of your big day with pride.

A celebration of love

John Dumelo’s wedding to his sweetheart Gifty Mawunya was all about true love and they were definitely the stars of the occasion. Use their influence when organising your own wedding party. Share stories with your guests of how your love began, your favorite meals and your favorite places. Seat yourself at the best table and for once make your unification the complete centre of attention. Don’t forget to make a list of the music that brought you together and have it played by the DJ or the band. One of the most striking things about John Dumelo’s amazing wedding was the traditional African attire – it spoke of the couple’s heritage and link to family.

Unify your cultures

When Ghanaian singer Becca got married to fiance Tobi in August, all eyes were on the traditional clothing, in particular the pink dress that she managed to keep secret until her wedding day. The wedding was a merge of Ghanaian and Nigerian cultures and the reception an evening to remember, with a traditional tiered cake and plenty of dancing. The couple’s first dance was in fact to Becca’s own songs. When you plan your own wedding party, think about how you can unify your own cultures in a traditional way and make them part of your special celebration.

Your wedding party should be stylish, sophisticated, and ultimately personal. Take influence from last year’s big celebrity weddings and use your party as a way of bringing together family and friends.
