The major focus in Europe this weekend will fall on Juventus’ bid to clinch an early Serie A title triumph in Italy, while Liverpool’s attempt to win the Premier League faces a major obstacle in the shape of Chelsea. This weekend’s games will be live and exclusive to DStv and GOtv.

Juve head to the Stadio Paolo Mazza to face SPAL on Saturday and need only avoid defeat to mathematically secure top spot and yet another Serie A title. It will be a deserved triumph for Massimiliano Allegri’s men and the earliest (with six games to spare) any side has won the title in a 20-team Serie A season.

With Napoli’s hopes of catching Juve effectively over after their 1-1 draw at home to Genoa, their focus must turn to ensuring they remain in second spot ahead of Internazionale (who are seven points adrift). The Neapolitans are away to Chievo at the Stadio Marc’Antonio Bentegodi, while the Nerazzurri take on Frosinone at the Stadio Benito Stirpe.

The race for fourth place and the final UEFA Champions League berth is now of huge interest, with Atalanta, Milan, Roma, Lazio and Torino in positions four through eight and covered by just three points. The key game in this regard sees Milan host Lazio at the San Siro on Saturday night.

In England, Liverpool went back to the top of the table – taking full advantage of Manchester City’s participation in the FA Cup this past weekend – with a 3-1 win away to Southampton in which Mohamed Salah finally broke his scoring drought.

However, Maurizio Sarri’s Chelsea who are in the midst of huge battle to finish in the top four and qualify for next season’s UEFA Champions League – will offer a much sterner challenge to Jurgen Klopp’s men when the teams meet at Anfield on Sunday.

In Spain, the derby between Sevilla and Real Betis is set to be the biggest match of the round, while Barcelona will look to move within touching distance of the title when they take on Huesca away from home on Saturday afternoon.

The Seville derby at Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan later the same evening could have a massive effect on the race for the final berth in the top four, with Sevilla coming into the match in fifth place, just one point adrift of Getafe.

Manager Joaquin Caparros revealed over the weekend that he has been diagnosed with chronic leukaemia but is determined to remain with the team, adding even more weight to their battle against Betis.
