Kumerica craze gone too far? Social media slams Kobby Carter for promoting gang violence in new single, ‘Akwashifoc’

Budding Kumasi-based rapper, Kobby Carter incurred the wrath of social media users after snippets of the video for his new single,‘Akwashifuo’, were posted on Twitter and Instagram.

The single follows the general theme (Drill style of trap music) that has characterized most of the songs that have been released under the Kumerica craze so far. But many social media users feel that Carter’s song promotes gang violence and crime  Many see the song as praising the actions of criminals who snatch items from people on the streets, using brute force and even murder.

According to Kobby Carter, born Gerald Ohene Twumasi, “…. the motive behind ‘Akwashifoc’ is that I have been a victim of these street gangster (robbers) and it is something that’s happening everywhere in the world. So decided to put it on a beat to let people know how it is done here in Kumerica.”

Kobby Carter only started doing music last year, 2019.
