Kwamz talks new music ‘Ronaldo’, UK Afrobeat scene, creative process and more

British-Ghanaian Afrobeat artist, Kelvin Laryea well known in showbiz circles as Kwamz who has been a pinnacle to helping Afrobeat reach its highest in the UK.

Kwamz is one of the most promising talents to emerge from the UK Afrobeat scene of late, having trended on Triller and Tik Tok and delivered a run of singles that have influenced the growth in his  popularity such as ‘Say My Name’, ‘Towobo’, ‘What You Telling Me?’, ‘What is this?’ and more recently ‘Again’ to name a few.

In this interview, he talks to Ameyaw Debrah about his new single ‘Ronaldo’ the ever-blazing group, Kwamz & Flava, creative process and more.

Tell us about your new single ‘Ronaldo’ and what first got you into music?

I like to dance, I like to live life, I like to celebrate when I achieve something in my life. I work very hard and I’m focused on what I want to achieve and that’s what ‘Ronaldo’ is – a song about all these things. I got in to music because it helps me to express myself and be understood.

Your new single ‘Ronaldo’ serves as a follow up to ‘What is This?’, are you now a solo artist or still part of the group, Kwamz & Flava?

The fans need to know Kwamz & Flava are and will forever releasing music, same with Kwamz. Go check my history, there’s always have been a Kwamz release and there’s always will be been a Kwamz & Flava release.

Are there any artists you’re looking to collaborate with?

I got my eyes and ears on what’s new and I like it. But that’s all I’ll say for now.

How will you say your music is faring in the UK and in Ghana?

 

I can’t complain, I get love on my socials and reaction anytime I release music or mention I will be releasing music.

What is your creative process like?

Come to the studio and see lol.

If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?

Culture creating an official category Afrobeat and more recognition for Afrobeat and the Afro sound.
