Ghanaian rapper, Kwesi Arthur has kicked against the construction of the National Cathedral.

Despite public outcry against the construction of the edifice, some members of the ruling National Patriotic Party (NPP) have strongly defended the project.

The Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, has in interviews given numerous reasons why the National Cathedral is important for the country.

According to him, the completion of the project will rake in more revenue for the state upon completion. Mr Ofori-Atta states once completed and fully operational, the National Cathedral is projected to raise at least US$1.8 billion within the first five years of operation.

In another quote from Joy News, Ken Ofori Atta states “the government is only spending a little of its annual expenditure to build what he calls a righteous state whilst attaining a key nation transformation component; spirituality.”

Replying to the finance minister’s statement, the “Baajo” hitmaker stated that he is a tax-paying Ghanaian and does not want a cathedral.

“As a Ghanaian, I don’t want a cathedral,” Kwesi tweeted.
