If you’re reading this, you probably have trouble getting your mornings right and as productive as you’d like. Mornings aren’t a breeze for many of us – our alarm might fail, we might miss our bus, or any of a dozen little upsets and inconveniences might cast a shadow early in our day.

What’s the right solution? A great way to get the most out of your morning hours is through the development of a practical and effective morning routine. This isn’t as easy as it may sound, and the specifics of it might require quite a bit of tinkering to suit your individual nature and personality.

Here’s a great outline to get you started right every morning.

• Journaling

You don’t have to be a writer to get the benefits of writing in the morning. Our day-to-day lives are crammed full of needless information – unfinished thoughts, half-formed ideas, funny bits of logic, and countless other little worries and thoughts. By simply taking some time each morning to set these down on paper before starting your day, you can greatly de-clutter your mind and get your creative energy flowing properly. It’ll carry you productively through the rest of your day.

• Making Your Bed

You might not think making your bed in the morning deserves a place on such a list as this, but your mom was right all those years – making your bed each and every morning might be the single best habit to develop. You see, when you get up in the morning and proceed to make your bed, you will have accomplished the very first task of your day. Doing this will give you a little boost and a sense of accomplishment that might be just what you need to get the next thing done – and the next – until the end of your productive day.

• Morning Meals

While most of us make a big deal out of dinner, breakfast is actually the most important meal of the day. The energy we get at the breakfast table is what we’ll use through the most energy-demanding portion of our working day, and so getting it right should be a priority. Take the time to find and purchase a brand of coffee beans that suits your taste, be sure to balance your meal out with some fruit, and be careful not to overdo things such as sugar and cream for a great start every morning.

• Get Moving

While a full body workout might be a bit much to take on each and every morning, it can be greatly beneficial to your productivity to get a little bit of movement accomplished each morning. It’s a great way to jump-start your system. For example, five minutes of yoga, five pushups every minute for ten minutes, or any other type of exercise should get your system into gear for the day.

You don’t have to try implementing all these tips at once – you’re going to need some time to get your body used to the new routine. Start with one or two, and move on at your own pace. These small changes to your mornings can translate to incredible boosts to your morning productivity.
