Celebrated Ghanaian actress cum entreprenuer, Akorfa Edjeani Aseidu, has recently called for the inclusion of Ama Ata Aidoo’s books as well as books from other African writers in the curriculum of primary schools.

Her proposal highlights the importance of exposing young minds to the works of the iconic Ghanaian writers and the benefits it can bring to their educational and cultural development. According to her, the books of the late Professor Ama Ata Aidoo and other African writers must be read mandatorily in schools right from the primary level.

Akorfa, who is a cultural advocate opined that students must not have to be studying literature as an elective course in school or be a part of  a reading club before reading literature books, emphasizing that readers get enlightened and their lives are enriched. She then mentioned that the late writer wrote in simple language on themes that everyday people could easily relate to.

She  praised the late Professor Ama Ata Aidoo for breaking the glass ceiling to show other women how strong they can be.

“She wrote her book about 60 years ago. For her at that time to be that bold and vocal is something we should cherish and project. It is something that we have to do more. It has to be a deliberate plan that we as a country will say this is the way to go, so let’s do it this way.”
