This week, DStv viewers will celebrate Africa Day with interesting music and programming from all over Africa on two of the continent’s most popular music channels, Channel O and MTV Base. The first highlight of Channel O’s 2011 Africa Day celebration is a double dose of Season 2 of I-Request, which has grown into one of the channel’s most popular, viewer-generated content shows since its launch a year ago. In 2011, I-Request broadens its ability to hear from young Africans throughout the continent what music requests they want made public, to even when the I-Request cameras are not around.  DStv audiences can tune into Channel O at 11:00 CAT to watch the first episode of the season.

DStv audiences can also tune into Channel O to watch as O Africa Xpress showcases African artists and African videos non-stop for 30 minutes at midnight and 04:00 CAT; a full hour at noon, 15:00 and 22:00 CAT, making for hours of proudly African viewing. Viewers can also watch Top Mais featuring Yola Semedo at 21:00 CAT, where all things Angolan and Mozambican are showcased on this popular show. So tune in to Channel O on Wednesday 25 May for a taste of why Africa is seen as the music world’s most exciting, diverse and innovative continent.

Africa Day celebrates the 1963 foundation of The Organisation of African Unity, now known as the African Union. This Africa Day expect some fresh, specially made productions straight outta Africa on MTV base. DStv audiences can tune into MTV Base all day Wednesday 25 to watch the Base Special Leaders of the Afrikan Nu Skool which highlights a new generation of African stars popular all over the continent and going global too.  Another Base Special will focus on Kwaito Legends, whilst there will be a Select 10 chart breaking down African Leading Ladies and another Select 10 chart of African Collabos. Plus, MTV base VJ and music expert Sizwe Dhlomo brings you the Official African Chart with the latest and hottest international and African tracks straight from the streets.
