Mr. Dutch and Chief Priest are high off life in video for ‘Chop Life x2’

Published

on

Nigeria’s afro-cyborg shares his timely new release with fellow country star, Chief Priest in a cinematic video that’s a sassy fit for the gist on deck. Listen/stream ‘Chop Life x2’ here: https://ffm.to/choplifex2

Like its title suggests, ‘Chop Life x2’ doesn’t oppose the flashy trend it tries to uphold. Rather, it is meant to put the quite common term on an intensity that is twice as big. A song sure to re-echo in the minds of listeners long after play, Mr. Dutch offers the right melodies to sell younger fans this assertive lifestyle he seemingly embodies.

On the video front, the Clarence A. Peters film features Chief Priest and gives viewers a dramatic scope of the song’s title using a plot device typical of gangster action movies. It’s all nightclub amusements from there, with Mr. Dutch enjoying himself as 007 would while he scans for his target, Chief Priest. Plot aside, there’s a handful of video vixens on scene to energize the neon-heavy backdrop of the swanky club with some engaging choreography.

Take it from Mr. Dutch and make this festive season one to remember with ‘Chop Life x2’ on constant rotation.

Guchi - Scatter My Head ft. Zlatan

Africa’s take-over star, and PG Records signee Guchi, once again flexes her hit-making muscle on a new single “Scatter My Head”, featuring street-pop king Zlatan. Having had an amazing career year so far, “Scatter My Head” brings us closer to the possibility of a full body of work from Guchi, next year. The Tiktok sweetheart tilts to an evolved, yet homegrown type of Afrobeat, proving her ability to shapeshift into a wide spectrum of sound.

Zlatan comes in as the collaborator of choice considering the extra zest he brings to this class of Afropop. Guchi narrates the intoxicating quality of a lover and the resulting effect on her emotional health. Zlatan spins his verse from an encomium-showering point of view, listing the many reasons why he is attracted to his love interest.

Scatter My Head’s instrumental was carefully crafted by ChechDaProducer with engineering credits going to Vtek. The song possesses exotic upbeat percussion arrangements while sporting soothing mid-tempo melodies. It is Guchi’s third single after her breakthrough release Jennifer and its powerful Benzema follow-up. “Scatter My Head” is also her second single with a featured act after Rayvanny’s appearance on Jennifer Remix.

South Africa’s Afropop Sensation Nomfusi Returns Home With New Music

Published

on

SAMA-Nominated Afropop and Jazz sensation Nomfusi, has returned home from her European tour with a new single release “IQAQA”- the first single from Nomfusi’s forthcoming album titled “The Red Stoep”. An afropop jazz-infused single, Iqaqa is a song about a love relationship which uses a Xhosa idiom “Iqaqa aliziva kunuka” meaning “the skunk does not smell itself” which highlights how people often are unable to recognize their own faults.

Inspired by her own life events, the single was written while she was on a European tour in the mountains of Austria and an argument with her partner. Away from her relationship frustration she created a fictional story line of a woman leaving her relationship because of a man being too much of “Iqaqa”.

Speaking on her return to South Africa “ I’m so excited to be back home where I draw my musical inspiration from. I always preserve the isiXhosa language in my music because it’s my mother tongue and in a way, I always feel more connected to home no matter where I am in the world. Touring Europe and parts of Canada has been a blessing but being home is the greatest blessing of all”- says Nomfusi.
“The Red Stoep places Nomfusi’s voice at its heart. Its evocative power allows her to traverse social issues as effortlessly as matters of the heart and spirit and draws us together in this time of great need.” – Songlines Reviews (UK)

Throughout her career Nomfusi has given riveting performances across Europe and Canada in telling her stories through music at prestigious festivals such as WOMAD UK, AFRIKADEY (CA), FMM SINES (PT), LUGANO JAZZ (CH) just to name a few. She opened for super star Lionel Richie at STIMMEN FESTIVAL in Germany and starred on stage with Hugh Masekela, Angelique Kidjo, Dorothy Masuka, Hotsticks Mabuse and Sibongile Khumalo.

Nomfusi was chosen to portray the character of Miriam Makeba in the long-awaited film about the life of Nelson Mandela “Long Walk To Freedom.”

Nomfusi’s life story has been captured widely in the media. Chris Blackwell, the founder of Island Records, who discovered Bob Marley, Angelique Kidjo and U2 said of Nomfusi after viewing a touching SABC documentary of her life and music: “What a terrific young artist, her genuine concern for her community and beyond comes through SO strongly.”
