Prior experience not required, industry mentor for every learner

NIIT Ghana has launched a six-month online/blended certificate course in Full Stack Development for aspiring programmers, even if they don’t have any background in coding. The classes, starting August 1, 2020, will be limited to twenty students per batch.

“Several mentors from the industry have joined us in the process of developing, co-creating and executing this Full Stack development course. This mentorship panel will provide constructive input to students that textbooks or guest lectures alone cannot deliver,” Sujith Jayaprakash, Director of NIIT Ghana, said.

This course will cover a wide range of programming languages and tools, with a particular focus on Java and Python. Upon completion, a student will qualify for a host of job opportunities such as Full Stack developer, junior Full Stack engineer, software developer, program analyst, web developer, front end developer etc. Upon completion of this course, a student can also successfully operate as an independent professional and start accepting projects from different organisations across the globe.

He also said this programme would be virtual, but students who do not have access to fast internet can complete it at NIIT centres in Accra, Tema, Kumasi and Tamale. Students also have an option of partial fee payment once they get the placement. To enroll, a student must have a bachelor’s degree or Higher National Diploma in any subject.

According to a LinkedIn report, IT workers who can develop machine learning models and apply statistical and analytical approaches to large data sets using programs like Python, MATLAB, and others will be in high demand. Such competency was listed among the top ten most in-demand hard skills of 2020 by the employment service provider.

The Certificate in Full Stack Development offered by NIIT Ghana covers the most in-demand digital skills in Africa’s IT industry. Every student must complete several projects, hours of practical training, portfolio preparation, and career advisory sessions to claim the certificate.

A unique feature of this certificate is that an industry expert will coach and advise a student without for free of charge. NIIT Ghana has partnered with several seasoned IT professionals to form a distinguished mentorship panel.

There are several advantages to having mentors from the industry. Such interactions will give students a chance to gain real-time insights into the modern workforce, improve their professional and communication skills, and network within the industry.
