Ghana’s own rap doctor Okyeame Kwame and his management, One Mic Entertainment have given their full backing to the much talked about and widely publicised poetry and spoken word event, ALEWA. ALEWA which is an acronym for [A]rt [L]overs,[E]ntertainers & [W]ordsmiths in [A]ction is an event that showcases or gives the platform to poets (Performance poets, Spoken Word artistes ,recital poets etc.), Musicians/Intrumentalists (Acoustic music mainly), authors, novelists, etc. to showcase to the public what they have to offer the entertainment industry. Okyeame Kwame and One Mic Entertainment’s full endorsement of ALEWA wouldn’t come as a big surprise to many as Okyeame Kwame is widely known as a very good poet and orator, and his passion to see poetry and spoken reach the highest peak is immeasurable. Okyeame Kwame has become a household name, actually one of the most admired and sought-after musicians of all time in and around Ghana. One of his most recent albums, M’awensem (My poetry)-2008, with hit singles like Odo nkyen, Woso, Medo mmaa, Kwame Ghana; is written in stanza form and upon literal analysis; the use of literary devices such as metaphor, rhyme, rhythm, meter, imagery, simile, alliteration, et cetera; accentuates his poetic touch. The team at People Of Equal Thoughts & Spirit (POETS), the young and talented group that organizes ALEWA are indeed pleased with the endorsement and the new partnership with One Myk Entertainment and believe strongly that this new partnership will be the beginning of greater things to happen in the poetry and spoken word bit of the entertainment industry in Ghana. Special mention must also be made of Annica Nsiah-Apau of One Mic Entertainment who has worked tirelessly to make sure this partnership sees the light of day. The next edition has been titled ‘VERBAL INTERCOURSE,’ to describe the emotion of love through words of poetry mainly in spoken word. Though many people think the topic of love is a cliché, the organizers of this poetry show are putting together a formidable team of performers to creatively debunk this notion about love in the modern times. One of the main things to watch out for is the formula derived specifically for the show: Verbal intercourse + x = Love (find x). So,in order not to miss the finding of X in the formula through creativity of words do make it a point to be at SyTris Bookshop (directly above the Glo office of the Mark Coffie building) at Osu,near Papaye on Saturday,15th September,2012 at 6:30 p.m. Rate is 20 cedis.]]>
