Parliament to Integrate local languages in official proceedings

Parliament is set to incorporate local languages during sessions to preserve the Ghanaian culture.

Order 63 allows MPs to use local languages with translation for all. The initiative, starting in the second meeting of the fourth session, aims to promote cultural diversity.

Speaker Alban Bagbin assured necessary facilities, including translators and gadgets, will be in place for a smooth launch after the Easter break. The move follows discussions sparked by MP Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah advocating for the preservation of the Nzema language.

The Speaker referred the matter to committees on Education, Culture, Tourism, and Finance for a decision. This aligns with Parliament’s recent implementation of new Standing Orders, including a daily roll call and the recitation of the national pledge, to enhance accountability and patriotism among MPs.
