The drainage, which is estimated at GH¢25,000, is being constructed along the principal streets of the town to help resolve the constant flooding of the community anytime it rains.
The gesture by Mr Yeboah, who contested Kojo Oppong Nkrumah in the NPP primaries at Ofoase Ayirebi, stems from a special appeal made by the chief of the town, Osabarima Asimadu, and his elders, as well as the leaders of the Zongo community in Anyinase, who happen to suffer the most during raining seasons, when the politician and philanthropist visited the area some three months ago.
A sod-cutting ceremony held in the community to commence the construction attracted people from the neighbouring towns and villages, the chief of Anyinase and his elders, as well as leaders of the various religious groups in the town.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Yeboah said he decided to construct the drainage after the chief of the town contacted him with the request. “The lack of proper drainage in the community continues to affect people anytime it rains. People’s homes get flooded and many get displaced so I was touched after I visited the area to check the situation.”
He said the government cannot do everything, which was why it was important that people who can help in making communities better help the government in bringing development to communities.
He recounted his early life in the constituency and how he managed, with the help of God, to go through a number of difficulties to become who he is today. He urged the youth of the community to work hard in order to make their lives better.
He also emphasised his vision of establishing industries in the Ofoase-Ayirebi Constituency for the teeming unemployed youth to get something doing in order to earn a meaningful living.
The chief of Anyinase, Osabarima Asimadu, expressed profound appreciation to Mr Obiri Yeboah for his kind gesture, and called on all Anyinase natives and residents to support the project.
He added that in all the years he has been a chief, he has never seen a politician start a capital-intensive project of this nature in any of the towns before elections.
According to the chief, “Some of the politicians would plead with the people to vote for them with the promise of answering their calls when they assumed power, but Mr Obiri Yeboah has distinguished himself from some of these politicians so I wish him success in all his political ambitions.”
Mr Yeboah has been doing philanthropic work in the constituency since 2010.
