Renowned Ghanaian-British architect David Adjaye, OBE wed Ashley Shaw-Scott this past weekend – on Saturday January 18, 2014.
Ashley is a model turned business consultant while 47 year old David, who was born in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania to a diplomat father, is one of the most respected architects of his generation. He is an OBE – Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire – one of the highest honours obtainable by any civilian in Great Britain.
The groom has designed for the likes of the late British designer Alexander McQueen, and is currently a visiting professor at Yale – he has held visiting professor roles at Ivy League universities Harvard University and University of Pennsylvania.
In 2009, David was selected in a competition to design the $500 million National Museum of African American History and Culture, part of the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C., which is scheduled to open in 2015 – his design includes a motif from a Yoruba sculpture.
The glorious wedding held Britain, in a historic 400 year old chapel. The bride wore a custom couture beaded wedding gown. Guests included singer Somi, who sang for the couple, a former UN Secretary General, global art stars and celebrities.
Here’s a few photos of the couple out and about before they tied the knot –
