Power To The God Within: Jojo Abot releases emotive audio visual EP, exploring self-led healing

Genre-bending interdisciplinary artist, Jojo Abot is out with  a sonic and visual account of a self lead journey towards healing following FYFYA WOTO as she embarks on a meditative pilgrimage in honor of Mawu Sogbo Lisa, the creator and essence of life as the portal to true liberation and knowledge of self.

Written, produced and performed by the artist herself in her Harlem apartment, this EP serves as a look into a more intricate and evolved offering following her two EPs Ngiwunkulunkulu and FYFYA WOTO.

Fluidly fusing elements of trap, afrobeat, house, soul and psychedelic funk among other vibrations, Abot continues to develop her own dynamic Afro-Hypno-Sonic sound which she describes a wave of high frequency Afropsychadelia. Both terms coined by the artist herself.

So far this year, JOJO ABOT has presented various multimedia manifestations of POWER TO THE GOD WITHIN in partnership with National Sawdust, Hult Center,  SXSW, Art With Me – Tulum, WallPlay Network (ONCANAL), Afropunk, B&H, Canon, New Inc, Nueuhouse, Design hotels, The Africa center, Shared Studios and more.

Just returning to NYC post a performance as part of the celebration of Ghana’s first pavilion at the Venice Biennale, she is currently creating work for her 3rd solo exhibition Opening June 6th in residency with happylucky no. 1 in Brooklyn.

Jojo Abot is an NYC based Ghanaian interdisciplinary artist exploring themes of spirituality, identity and community with SELF as the starting point to collective evolution. With an exciting budding career, Abot has toured with Ms Lauryn hill, played stages like Afropunk, Roots Picnic, Radio City Music Hall, The Apollo, Kennedy Center and more while being the first unsigned artist to perform live forNYC’s Times Square New Year’s Eve concert to over a million people. An alumni of the New Museum’s incubator program, New Inc and former resident at National Sawdust, Abot continues to develop and present her interdisciplinary practice through Power To The God Within
