shontelle in ghanaUS songstress, Shontelle will be replacing J Holiday as the supporting act for the Mario concert, taking place this evening at the  Dome of the Accra International Conference Centre. 233 Connect, organizers of the concert, were forced to take the last minute changes due to J Holiday’s inability to make the trip.

J Holiday’s management explained that his wife just delivered a child and that it will be a bad time to leave his home country, the United States of America.

Known professionally as Shontelle, the Barbadian singer and songwriter released her debut album Shontelligence in November 2008. Her sophomore album, No Gravity, was released in September 2010. Her singles, “T-Shirt”, and “Impossible”, achieved modest international success.

Meanwhile, D-Cryme will join the other artists performing on the night including the headline acts Mario, Cabo Snoop and KAS, who are all in the country currently. Together with the best of local acts ready for the event, Accra is in for a good show at the Dome.

On the heels of selling out the middle front roll of his anticipated London O2 Arena concert on 3rd May 2024, Ghanaian rap star Medikal has bold ambitions to build deeper bonds between the UK and Afrobeats music culture. Medikal explained that while Afrobeats has exploded into a global phenomenon over the last decade, permeating mainstream music across markets, he believes London still harbors an untapped opportunity for growth. ‘This show is going to be legendary not just for me, but for Afrobeats as a whole. I see my performance as a milestone event to spotlight Afrobeats for my British fans’ he explains in an interview with Merqury Quaye on Hitz FM.

Medikal promised fans should expect something different not just the regular artist and there’s going to be entertainment, comedy, and not just music.

To bridge connections between the energetic, infectious rhythms of Afrobeats and his diaspora audience, Medikal is crafting a setlist of fan favorites from the genre’s leading stars. He plans to blend popular tracks from genre stylists with his up-tempo catalog of songs.

Given the swift sell-out of prime floor seats for the upcoming event, excitement around Medikal’s bridging mission is already building.
By the end of the night, thousands of new London fans would be moved by the Afrobeats culture.
