Joel Ugo Enyinnaya presented an elegant collection under the iconic Jant’s Collection brand, during Day 1 of the 2017 Glitz Africa Fashion Week. Using staple colours of black, white, grey and blue, the designer cleverly brought his capsule collection to life. The showcase was a great starter for Fashion Week, as Ugo presented his easy-on-the-eye collection ranging from male to female formal and casual wear. The story of Jant’s Collection can be traced back to 1938, when Mama Janet Umezurike founded the brand. After being betrothed to a priest, she headed to the then ‘Home’ (an institution with the mandate of training women especially priests’ wives in domestic science) before their church wedding in 1939. Notable among the skills she acquired was, tailoring popularly. Many women passed through her tutelage in this trade. She was a guru in this profession from 1939 to 1982 when she encouraged her daughter-in-law Madam Mercy Enyinnaya (biological mother the present C.E.O, Joel Ugo Enyinnaya. Madam Mercy acquired same skill for continuity in 1982. Today, The Jant’s is born in memory of our matriarch and show of the creativity that runs in the blood. ]]>
