Stop Celebrating The Dead More Than The Living – Ofori Amponsah Urges Ghanaians

Published

Ofori Amponsah

Ghanaian highlife artist Ofori Amponsah recently made a thought-provoking statement that has ignited discussions about our societal values. In an era where we are quick to mourn and pay tribute to the departed, the singer challenges Ghanaians to reevaluate how we appreciate and honor the living.

Amidst the sorrow and grief that accompanies the loss of a loved one, it is undeniable that our attention is drawn to celebrating their achievements and remembering the impact they had on our lives.

We gather for funerals, erect memorials, and reminisce about the greatness of those who have passed away. Yet, how often do we take the time to celebrate the living and express gratitude for their presence?

Ofori Amponsah’s statement calls attention to the need for a shift in our mindset. Instead of waiting until someone has departed to acknowledge their worth, we should celebrate and appreciate them while they are still with us. We must recognize the value of their contributions, whether big or small, and express our gratitude for their presence in our lives.

With a remarkable 25-year journey in showbiz set to be commemorated in 2024, Ofori Amponsah expressed his preference for honouring individuals during their lifetime rather than attending funerals, believing that genuine celebration should happen in the present moment.

He explained by saying, “Sometimes people want you to die before they celebrate you and say oh as for this guy he was good. I really don’t like funerals that much, so I rarely attend,”

Speaking on with Nana Ama Mcbrown on  the Onua Showtime show last Sunday, May, 2023,  the ‘Emmanuella’ hitmaker asserted that, it is important to extend a helping hand to others whiles the are alive instead of waiting for them to depart from this world before offering support.

“I believe in celebrating the living. If someone wants a cup of water, offer it to them, don’t wait for them to leave this earth before you go and buy stuff for their funeral,” he added.
