<![CDATA[We live in a country where people get so angry about sexual acts between two consenting adults than when an individual is sexually abused. Day in, day out, news stories pop up about little girls, little boys, women and men being victims of sexual violence. Yet, very little awareness is raised in regards to this issue that has been with us for time immemorial. The society we live in is such that when issues of this sort comes up, it is hushed up quickly as it came. Victims are scared of speaking out and bringing their abusers to book. People in general do not see it as a big deal and a greater faction blames the victim rather than the culprit. Say Hello to The Safe Space Foundation. The Safe Space Foundation is an initiative still in its developing stages geared towards creating a consciousness on sexual abuse in our country. The foundation believes that it is about time Ghanaians gave maximum attention to sexual abuse in the country. It has decided to take responsibility in educating the masses on how individuals and society at large could help in curbing this menace that seems to be creeping into our society. The Foundation aims to collaborate with agencies that represent people at the vulnerable end to help improve their access to services available to assist them. They also aim to focus on ways to reduce (prevent) incidences of sexual violence in the country at large. This they believe will be done through educating the public, especially school children, on consent and self-defense techniques. The Foundation also wants to serve as a mouthpiece for the voiceless who are scared of coming out as victims of Rape and abuse, and also promises to give counselling services to victims of sexual violence. Simply put, The Safe Space aims to help create a society where sexual violence is on the low and perpetrators of the law are brought to book. The Safe Space Foundation Initiative is set to begin all official activities after its maiden launch in April this year. Remember, Change begins with you. ]]>
