The Juapong Circuit Court has sentenced Abel Dzidotor, a 41-year-old truck driver, to six months in jail after he admitted guilt to three charges.

Presided over by His Honour Prosper Deu-Love Gormashie, the court considered Dzidotor’s marital status and guilty plea. Dzidotor’s sentencing follows an incident where he abandoned his Hyundai truck on the Tema-Mpakadan rail lines, resulting in a collision with a new Diesel Multiple Unit (DMU) train during a site acceptance test.

Detective Chief Inspector Abel Anane, representing the Ghana Railways Authority, provided insight into the circumstances of the collision. The train crashed into Dzidotor’s unmanned truck in Abortia, Juapong, causing extensive damage to both vehicles. Dzidotor faced charges of careless driving, unauthorized stopping, and causing unlawful damage, resulting in various penalties and a six-month imprisonment with hard labor. The court has adjourned the hearing on a fourth charge, failure to produce a driver’s license, to May 9th, 2024.
