Big Brother All Star winner, Uti Nwachukwu says he doesn’t know what to think about his Ghana Movie Awards nomination since he hasn’t yet been officially told about it. When I asked him about his chances of winning the award slated for December 25, the actor, singer and reality TV star commented: “ummm…I haven’t received an official notification on my nomination oh. So I’m still not sure”.
Although Uti is well known across the African continent for his double appearance on the hit reality TV series, Big Brother Africa and for ultimately winning the most recent all-star edition, he first gained recognition in Ghana when he won the second position in the Next Movie Star (Ghana/Nigeria). Uti was nominated in the Best Actor – West Africa Collaboration category of the maiden Ghana Movie Awards for his role in ‘Bursting Out’. He faces stiff competition from fellow Nigerian actors, Yemi Blaq [SINKING SANDS], Ramsey Noah [GUILTY PLEASURES], and Desmond Elliot [GUILTY PLEASURES].
Meanwhile reports suggest that the créme of Nigeria’s movie industry will storm Ghana this weekend for the awards ceremony slated for the Accra International Conference Centre. Among the expected guests are Patience Ozorkwor, Ramsey Nouah, Desmond Elliot, Yemi Blaq, Uche Jombo, Tonto Dike and Mercy Johnson. Names like Nollywood’s rumoured rivals, Genevieve Nnaji and Omotola Jalade have been mentioned, as well as President of the Actors Guide of Nigeria and other.
The awards is also expected to rain with glitz, glam and surprises, with performances from top Ghanaian musicians like Samini, Wutah, No Tribe, Rana, 4×4, VIP and others. The best actor and best actress of the year will each drive home a Zoyte SUV four wheel drive, sponsored by Feiya Engineering Limited.
