Viasat 1 is set to sponsor an all expenses paid trip for the under 14 team of the Right to Dream Football Academy, to Norway in October 2010.  The team came up tops in the Peace United tournament organized at the school’s premises in Akrade near Akosombo in the Eastern Region last month.

The tournament was held with sponsorship from leading television network VIASAT 1, will send the winning team as peace ambassadors from Ghana at the upcoming international peace united tournament which is part of the annual Noble Peace Prize activities in Oslo, Norway. The objective is to bring together children from all walks of life to get a better understanding of their cultural differences, the importance of tolerance and respect for one another through the game of football. The winning team will be sent to Oslo, Norway to participate in the World Peace Cup held in connection with the announcement of the Nobel Peace Prize Winner in October.

Right to Dream beat FIPACUM FC in the final match by 3 goals to nil and would benefit from an all expense paid trip courtesy VIASAT 1, to the Norwegian capital in October. All other competing teams were given consolation prizes. Marketing Manager for VIASAT 1, Kwabena Opoku Boakye said, “It became necessary for us to organize the tournament since it is part of the company’s social responsibility. Every year all MTG countries participate in the world tourney and since Viasat 1 Ghana is coming of age we are participating this year and hopefully every year from now. Besides the football tournament, participating kids will be engaged in different educational activities held by the Nobel Peace Centre and Red Cross raising awareness of the importance of Peace and key elements behind the word Peace (tolerance, respect etc). Such activities include participation in School of Tolerance and a Peace Walk.”  He added that VIASAT will continue to support other equally beneficial initiatives such as the Peace United Football Tournament in the years to come. And yes of course, we will also deliver world class television content that best suits the VIASAT viewer”.

The Right to Dream Academy was founded in 1999 by British entrepreneur Tom Vernom. VIASAT 1 started broadcasting in Ghana on December 12, 2008 and is now a growing free-to-air television station bent on becoming the industry’s leading establishment. It is owned by the Swedish listed media group, Modern Times Group (MTG).

Viasat 1 is MTG’s first venture in Africa and became the fifth terrestrial television network in Ghana.
