Victoria Bright wins NPP’s Okaikoi South primaries

Lawyer Ms Victoria Bright has come out victorious in the just ended New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary primaries over the weekend.


Bright won majority votes to become the party’s parliamentary candidate in the Okaikoi South constituency of the Greater Accra Region ahead of the 2012 general elections.
Bright polled 248 votes against her closest contender,  Ahmed Arthur’s with a total of 216 votes.

“All I have to say is thank you to delegates of our great party and the people of Okaikoi South . We have a mission, which is to win the general elections and win this seat for our party,” she said.

Biography

Victoria Bright attended the Wesley Girls’ Secondary school for her secondary education. She obtained a B.A. (double hons) Law and French,

University of Sussex in 1988 and an LL.M from the College of Europe, Bruges in 1992. She also has a Diploma in EU and French Law from the University of Strasbourg.

Ms Bright served as legal advisor to the former President John Agyekum Kuffuor from 2005 to 2009 and served as a Minister of State.

She joined the legal profession in 1989 as a Trainee Solicitor with Taylor Wessing Solicitors in London. She served as Assistant Solicitor from 1993 till 1995,  after which she joined DLA Piper Solicitors in London as a Senior Associate. She became a Partner in 1999.
While at DLA, she advised The Mayor of London on the technology and data protection aspects of the Congestion Charging Scheme in London, Symbian (a Joint Venture company between Nokia, Motorola,Panasonic, Ericsson etc.) on e-commerce and m-commerce projects, Glaxo Smithkline on various large scale projects, acting for The UK Law Society on its first outsourcing project, acting for Granada Media (one of the largest TV/Media companies in the UK), the UK Ministry of Defence, UK Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (”formerly DTI”), UK Office of Government Commerce, Cable & Wireless plc, Dollond and Aitchison plc and GlobeCast Northern Europe
