Vodafone takes over Ghana Music Awards

Vodafone takes over the sponsorship from rival telecoms company, MTN which successfully sponsored the music awards festival for 12 years running.

Theresa Ayoade, Executive Director of Charterhouse recounted the invaluable role the Ghana Music Awards had played in the Ghanaian music industry since it was instituted 12 years ago, as well as the challenges and growths that has come with it. She thanked MTN for sticking with them throughout the process but stated that it was time to see the new phase of the Ghana Music Awards.

As part of the new partnership and the new direction of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards, all existing GMA committees i.e the Categorization, Nominations, and Selection and Planning have been dissolved pending a review. A technical committee comprising objective and knowledgeable practitioners in the industry will be constituted to undertake the review of the award categories, the review of the entire process of nominations and voting, as well as revamp the festival content.

Vodafone is excited about the partnership ecplained that the new contract gives them exclusive rights to the hugely popular event and all activities associated with it.  Uche Ofodile, Chief Marketing Officer of Vodafone Ghana commented:”‘

We are excited by the new ideas and concepts Charterhouse have in mind for the Ghana Music Awards. It’s a massive event in the calendar of the music industry and we are pleased to be able to support i. the changes you will see in the GMA next year will create a more vibrant festival with a transparent and fair judging process”.

She also talked about a new Vodafone Ghana Music Awards Foundation to support up and coming musicians as well as teach musicians the best practices in the music world that would enable artists to become better with their craft and their career as musicians.
