Wendy Shay vents on FDA for ban on advertisement of alcoholic beverages: FDA responds
Rufftown records signee, Wendy Shay has vented out her frustration on the Foods and Drugs Authority (FDA) after she lost a deal worth thousands of dollars to advertise an alcoholic beverage.
According to the “Shay on You” singer, she had no idea celebrities could not advertise alcoholic beverages in Ghana and that the ban was ‘taking food from their mouths.”
“I just lost a deal worth 1000sâ of dollars with this foreign alcohol company..I didnât know in GH Celebrities canât advertise for alcoholic beverages according to FDA. Like Seriously?! Small food we go chop too u wan take 4rm our mouth. Gh celebs wake up !!FDA Lift dat ban!!” she said in a tweet yesterday.
In 2015, the FDA, as part of efforts to ensure minors are protected from alcoholism, Â banned Ghanaian celebrities from advertising alcoholic beverages as an adherence to a World Health Organization (WHO) policy.
Wendy Shay’s tweet was however not unnoticed by the FDA as they sent her a reply reminding her of the ban and urging her to join the fight in preventing alcoholism.
“Dear @wendyshaygh, the guidelines on the advertisement of food states clearly that no well-known personality or professional shall be used in alcoholic beverage advertising,” FDA replied to her tweet.
