YouTube movies pose threat to Nollywood’s future and actors’ health – Kanayo O Kanayo
Veteran Nollywood actor Kanayo O Kanayo has voiced concerns about the proliferation of Nigerian actors and producers on YouTube.
In a shared Instagram video, he criticized the prevalent practice of conducting intense one-day shoots, stating, “Take, for instance, the whole irony of a one-day shoot. It is not sustainable.” He highlighted the health risks actors face due to demanding working conditions, noting, “Most of you think you are enjoying ‘I am fully booked for the next six months’ but your health…I hope you enjoy good health like those of us who started 38 years ago because what you are doing is not sustainable.”
Kanayo also expressed skepticism about YouTube’s future in Nigeria, warning, “YouTube is not going to last long in Nigeria as a platform” if such practices persist. He urged actors and producers to prioritize professionalism and sustainable content creation processes for the industry’s longevity.
