Camera/video camera

There is no vlogging without a camera or a video camera—aside from netting cheap flights that allow you to jet anywhere on budget and prepping your luggage, there’s probably no other step more important than acquiring this gadget if you want to be a serious vlogger. Your camera allows you to capture visuals that you want to share with your audience. There are numerous types of cameras sold in the market that will suit your preference and budget. Selecting a camera that can capture pictures and motion at any time, during the day or night, is highly recommended.

Here are the best types of cameras for your vlog:

  • Mirrorless camera

A mirrorless camera is a camera that lets its user capture images without using a mirror in the camera body. It’s better than a DSLR camera for vloggers since it offers image stabilization, so the result will not be shaky. Panasonic Lumix GH6 is one of the best mirrorless cameras for travel vlogging.

  • Compact camera

As the name suggests, it is a type of camera that is designed for simple operation with a typically small size. This type of camera is also referred to as a point-and-shoot camera. With its handy size, vloggers can conveniently hold it everywhere. Many people recommend Sony ZV-1 as the best compact camera for vlogging.

  • Action camera

If you ever see a small, sturdy, and waterproof camera, then it is called an action camera. This camera allows its user to move freely to take part in an adventure, even an extreme one. Most people recognize GoPro as the leading brand in this category.

  • Mobile phone camera

You can also use a mobile phone camera to create your vlog, but you need additional accessories to hold your phone, so it won’t slip from your hands. Samsung S22 Ultra is one of the best mobile phones for vlogging in 2022.

Microphone

You shouldn’t leave your viewers guessing what you’re saying in the video because your voice is too timid or interrupted by background noises. Even though your camera may come with its own microphone, it is safer to get a separate microphone to ensure that your viewers experience the best quality of sounds. You may want to consider some brands of microphones like Boya or Rode to purchase.

Tripod or selfie stick

Though it’s not as expensive as the other accessories, a tripod or selfie stick plays an important role when you record a vlog. First, it helps with your movement. You don’t have to worry that your camera will fall when you accidentally hit something or even just slip from your sweaty hands. Second, it reduces the shakiness of your image.

Lighting

If you shoot your vlogs outside during the day, lighting will not be much of an issue. But sometimes, you want to record your vlogs at night or simply inside a building or a room. In that case, you need separate lighting to illuminate the objects you shoot. Lighting can also assist in reducing light noise that may appear from the nearest windows or clefts, as light noise often lowers the quality of your visuals.

Laptop

It is absolutely compulsory for travel vloggers to own a good laptop. If you want to edit a high-quality video, it is recommended to have a laptop with a minimum of 12 GB RAM and 2.8 GHz to 3.8 GHz specifications.

Video editing software

Last but not least, you should ideally own a reliable video editing softwares. There are various options, from free softwares to premium ones that require subscriptions. Premium software usually provides more editing features, effects, and other editing tools. That said, it’s all up to your preference to choose which software gives you more ease and dexterity in editing your vlogs.
