A new music festival is set to hit Ghana this year, with an inaugural 2-day party over Independence holiday weekend to celebrate, music from Ghana, Africa and around the world on March 5 and 6, on Busua Beach. The ASABAAKO! (meaning one dance) festival, which is a selection of international African-inspired beats in the most spectacular of surroundings will see live performances and DJs from Accra, Takoradi and London (UK) spinning hip hop, hip life, afrobeat, high life, funk, soul, reggae and more, with parties taking place over two venues in the popular holiday destination of Busua.
The party starts 0n Saturdy, March 5 at the African Rainbow Hotel, with views over the beach and village from the rooftop bar; and continues on Sunday at Busua Beach with the all day, all night Independence beach concert and party (from midday). Ghanaian and UK Festival organisers, Beating Tracks Ltd., claim that this festival is the first of what will be an annual event, growing year-on-year and aiming to become one of Africa’s great international music festivals.
“We want to offer people something different. Ghana has some of the most beautiful outdoor scenery in the world, and ASABAAKO! gives people a good reason to come and experience it, enjoy themselves, meet new people from Ghana and around the world, and party in paradise,” comments Richard Goddard, of Beating Tracks.
Alongside the music there will be a range of beach sports including soccer and volleyball, while the more adventurous can even try surfing and kayaking. There are plenty of tourist activities in the area, from boat trips to jungle treks. Or, just relax by the beach, dip in the warm, clean sea, and enjoy the vibe. Accommodation is limited, so guests are advised to book early. For a full list of accommodation, as well as travel info and all other festival details visit www.facebook.com/asabaako or www.ASABAAKO.com
ASABAAKO! is a brand new event which will grow year-on-year to become a truly international festival. The 2011 event will set the tone, with DJs from Accra, Takoradi and London. Beating Tracks is already planning towards a bigger event in 2012, which will feature live artists from the UK, DJs from Europe and the USA, alongside some of Ghana’s and West Africa’s best musicians.
