Baba Maraire and King Britt to visit South Africa, December 8

Producer and DJ King Britt will be joined by Tendai ‘Baba’ Maraire of Shabazz Palaces for an all-star showcase in South Africa this December 8. This is one show only in South Africa, and it promises to be a huge night. Britt presents a five hour DJ set with Maraire on percussion. It’s a preview to their upcoming collaboration, a full-length album to be released later in 2013, that will focus on Maraire’s music and the music of his father, the internationally renowned marimba and mbira artist Dumisani Maraire. Britt’s known for remixing, rebuilding, and rethinking the world’s music, from his recenty work with Preservation Hall Jazz Band, King Sunny Ade, and Saul Williams, among many others. Maraire will join Britt on percussion and mbira. Presented by Kid Fonque, who’ll open up the show and join the duo. #2sidesofthebeat The Red Bull Sound System, a purpose-built beast of a sound system will be there in full force. While in South Africa, Britt and Maraire will be filming for the multimedia experience Maraire expects to present with their joint 2013 album.
