Elon Musk’s Neuralink Implants Brain Chip In First Human

Elon Musk has announced that the first human has received an implant from his Neuralink enterprise which attaches a computer to someone’s brain.

According to him, the patient is recovering well after the implant. The billionaire also revealed he hoped the product, called ‘Telepathy’ will eventually allow users with disabilities like Stephen Hawking to “communicate faster than an auctioneer”.

Last year, researchers in Switzerland published research in the journal Nature describing an implant that restores communication between the brain and spinal cord to help a man with paralysis to stand and walk naturally.

“The first human received an implant from Neuralink yesterday and is recovering well. Initial results show promising neuron spike detection. Initial results show promising neuron spike detection,” he wrote on X, formally Twitter.

Neuralink technology hopes to allow a person to interact with a computer just by using their thoughts, and vice versa.

The US Food and Drug Administration gave the company clearance last year to conduct its first trial to test its implant on humans, a critical milestone in the start-up’s hopes to help patients overcome paralysis and a host of neurological conditions. In September, Neuralink said it received approval for recruitment for the human trial.
