Fashion Educator Dr. Clement Asemnyra lists 10 fashion mistakes Ghanaians should avoid in 2023

The fashion scene in Ghana has grown over the years. Every few years, new trends pop up, and the daring fashionistas are not afraid to pick them up. 

Ghanaian fashion is known for its bold colours and eclectic prints, however, over the years, designers and fashion lovers have inculcated foreign designs into their wardrobes.

Although fashion is available to just about anyone who can afford it, there are rules that should be followed; and a lot of people have been found committing grisly fashion mistakes.

To help steer fashion lovers in the right direction, Ghanaian Fashion Educator, Dr. Clement Asemnyra, who has been in the Ghanaian fashion business for almost a decade has listed the top ten fashion mistakes Ghanaians should avoid;

▪️WEARING WRONG OUTFIT FOR THE OCCASION

One should know what to wear when and when to wear what.

Pick the right clothes for the occasion. Follow the dress code, dress well and grow your confidence.

Wear the right combination of clothes depending on the occasion but don’t hesitate to stand out.

▪️BEING BIG ON FAST FASHION

Choose Quality over Quantity. Don’t excessively buy fast fashion, disposable, and cheaply made clothing. Instead, choose more durable and high-quality pieces that look beautiful, last longer, and make you feel your best.

Invest in a smaller number of high-quality fashion pieces instead of multiple garments that you only wear a few times.

▪️WEARING ILL-FITTING CLOTHES

Wear clothes with the perfect fit that make you look fantastic and flatter your figure. Don’t forget to try on each item when shopping for new clothes.

You can improve your fashion style drastically by wearing the right fit for your body type. If your clothes don’t fit you, your risk losing style and elegance.

▪️LEAVING PRODUCT LABELS ON CLOTHING

Manufacturers attach labels to give consumers information about the product features at a glance. It very wrong to be seen wearing any Clothing piece with it labels hanging around.

▪️LONG LENGTH OF SHIRT/ TOP SLEEVES

Sleeves should end just past the wrist bone. Even when an item fits perfectly everywhere else, a sleeve length shouldn’t pass your wrist. A simple alteration that doesn’t cost much and can make your shirt go from good-looking to tailor-made.

▪️FORGETTING TO ADD ACCESSORIES

Accessorizing is one of the biggest keys to looking stylish.

Wearing wrong colors can make you look tacky. If you are not sure of the colors that works best for you, do more of neutral colors. They make clothing pieces very versatile.

▪️TOO MUCH PERFUME OR COLOGNE

Wearing too much perfume is wrong. You don’t want to overwhelm people with your smell. It’s a style mistake that you need to pay attention to. So before you step out, spray no more than 3-4 spritzes of your perfume or cologne to your wrists and neck, and you’re good to go.
