Ghanaian actor and politician, John Dumelo has refuted claims by Fred Nuamah that he gave him his blessings to contest the Ayawaso West Wuogon parliamentary seat.

According to Dumelo, he and Nuamah are not friends, and they haven’t been for a while now so there’s no way he’d give him (Nuamah) his blessings to contest the seat.

“We are not friends, as we speak now, we are not friends,” Dumelo told MzGee on the United Showbiz Show on UTV.

When asked how long they haven’t been friends for, he stated;

“At no point did I tell Fred that I am not contesting in Ayawaso West Wuogon, at no point.”

Dumelo also categorically stated that he at no point gave his blessings to Nuamah, as widely reported.

“Never, I can never give Fred Nuamah my blessings, when he knows I am coming to contest there? Why would I do that?” Dumelo stated.

Dumelo also revealed when Fred Nuamah informed him of his decision to contest. According to Dumelo, two months ago, he (Nuamah) told him that he had heard that he wanted to contest the Ayawaso seat again so he’s throwing his support to his bid.

“On my birthday on February 3, he came there and in the evening he released a flyer and after sent me a long text message and I told him that I never said I wasn’t coming back and later he went to pick up forms, so which blessings did I give?” Dumelo quizzed.

“I think that’s the betrayal, that’s a stab in the back, for someone I’ve known for almost 20 years? That’s a stab in the back,” he stated.

When asked by the host what he (Dumelo’s) next move is, he stated

“He (Nuamah) he will lose the primaries, if you speak to the delegates, they all want John to come back to continue the good work he is doing. As for Fred coming, I don’t know his motivation. That is the point.”
