Get Familiar: Afrosoul singer, Teni delivers ‘Lion Heart’

Published

on

tnTeni is a Nigerian jazz singer and composer who makes afrosoul. Upon hearing her smoky and elegant vocal, one is immediately reminded of Sade Adu. She has been described as one of the few  women composing original contemporary feminine afrobeat and afrosoul as Fela’s legacy ignites the world from New York to London. With her nine-piece band the Afro-Renaissance, she seeks to start a new movement as one of the very few African women making big-band music and leading her own band. Her message of African unity and upliftment and sensual live performance are sure to help her take the music world by storm. Industry insiders have said “Sade, watch out,” however Teni makes it clear that while she is inspired by her, she is very much forging her own unique path with a more afrobeat inspired sound and style. This gifted singer-songwriter now looks firmly set to emerge as one of 2012’s finest new breakthrough artists with her self-produced album that was recorded entirely in Lagos and Accra and singles which have received airplay on the BBC. With Afrodisiac, an album of truly classic, rootsy soul music that is ten years in the making, Teni is set to revolutionize music with a self-produced sound that transcends genres from jazz and the blues to soul and reggae and has a strong, truly universal message. She is now releasing two singles from her album, title track “Afrodisiac” and “Lionheart.” They are both available for download at http://soundcloud.com/teni]]>
