Ghanaian Pastors pay Nigerian artistes better than they pay us- Celestine Donkor

Contemporary Ghanaian gospel singer, Celestine Donkor, has revealed their Nigerian counterparts are paid significantly higher when they’re billed to perform on the same platforms in Ghana.

According to the award-winning singer, some notable pastors are behind this trend, consistently downplaying Ghanaian gospel musicians when it comes to renumeration.

Speaking in an interview on Hitz FM, Celestine Donkor bemoaned the practice, detailing how unfair the treatment is because both Ghanaian and Nigerians pay the same amount to push their music on streaming platforms such as YouTube, hence deserve an equal renumeration.

“We have our big pastors, I don’t want to mention names …You can see a whole Ghanaian church line up strictly Nigerian artistes and in the case where they’re billing a Nigerian and a Ghanaian, they’re paying them way better. If a Nigerian is taking $10,000, you’re struggling to earn GHC 10,000. Meanwhile, when we go on YouTube to push our songs, we’re paying the same amount, in dollars. Whether you’re American or Nigerian, the dollar is what we’re paying in,” she lamented.

She continued; “The advantage Nigerians have is that they’re paid better. I have been on plenty programs where Nigerians are on and we know how much they’re paid and we’re paid significantly lower.”
