South Africa’s Afropop Sensation Nomfusi Returns Home With New Music

Published

on

SAMA-Nominated Afropop and Jazz sensation Nomfusi, has returned home from her European tour with a new single release “IQAQA”- the first single from Nomfusi’s forthcoming album titled “The Red Stoep”. An afropop jazz-infused single, Iqaqa is a song about a love relationship which uses a Xhosa idiom “Iqaqa aliziva kunuka” meaning “the skunk does not smell itself” which highlights how people often are unable to recognize their own faults.

Inspired by her own life events, the single was written while she was on a European tour in the mountains of Austria and an argument with her partner. Away from her relationship frustration she created a fictional story line of a woman leaving her relationship because of a man being too much of “Iqaqa”.

Speaking on her return to South Africa “ I’m so excited to be back home where I draw my musical inspiration from. I always preserve the isiXhosa language in my music because it’s my mother tongue and in a way, I always feel more connected to home no matter where I am in the world. Touring Europe and parts of Canada has been a blessing but being home is the greatest blessing of all”- says Nomfusi.
“The Red Stoep places Nomfusi’s voice at its heart. Its evocative power allows her to traverse social issues as effortlessly as matters of the heart and spirit and draws us together in this time of great need.” – Songlines Reviews (UK)

Throughout her career Nomfusi has given riveting performances across Europe and Canada in telling her stories through music at prestigious festivals such as WOMAD UK, AFRIKADEY (CA), FMM SINES (PT), LUGANO JAZZ (CH) just to name a few. She opened for super star Lionel Richie at STIMMEN FESTIVAL in Germany and starred on stage with Hugh Masekela, Angelique Kidjo, Dorothy Masuka, Hotsticks Mabuse and Sibongile Khumalo.

Nomfusi was chosen to portray the character of Miriam Makeba in the long-awaited film about the life of Nelson Mandela “Long Walk To Freedom.”

Nomfusi’s life story has been captured widely in the media. Chris Blackwell, the founder of Island Records, who discovered Bob Marley, Angelique Kidjo and U2 said of Nomfusi after viewing a touching SABC documentary of her life and music: “What a terrific young artist, her genuine concern for her community and beyond comes through SO strongly.”

Meghan Trainor

With Christmas less than a month away, Meghan Trainorreveals the heartwarming music video for her fan favorite holiday original “My Kind of Present.

It’s a standout from the Deluxe Edition of her holiday album, A Very Trainor Christmas [Epic Records], available as a digital exclusive now. Listen HERE.

Christmas just got a whole lot sweeter thanks to Meghan Trainor

In the visual directed by renowned choreographer, artist, and director Charm La’Donna [The Weeknd, Dua Lipa, Kendrick Lamar], Meghan sits with her infant son Riley as she reads him his own fairytale in Rileys Book. The clip intercuts vignettes of the superstar as she wraps presents flanked by backup singers, gets ready in a Marilyn Monroe-style satin robe, and performs with reindeer ears. It ends with the hint of a new tradition for her little family as the camera focuses on the book and its dedication to Meghan and Riley from Daryl. It might just be her warmest and most wonderful video yet!

Last month, she teased the album’s arrival with the release of her take on “Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree.” Right out of the gate, it incited widespread critical applause. The Honey Pop raved, “It helps tie in that classic feel for such an iconic holiday song and builds on the nostalgic flair Meghan has added to hits like “All About That Bass,” “Dear Future Husband,” and What If I, and Just Jared JR. touted it on New Music Friday. Popping up everywhere this month, Meghan also just shared her “Go-To Karaoke Songs” with E! and also sat down with The Today Show for an exclusive interview about A Very Trainor Christmas and more.

Yaba Buluku Boyz score another for the culture on new Amapiano collaboration ‘Waka Waka Moz’ Remix

Published

on

With the 2021 edition of the All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) now a memento of their debut glory, Yaba Buluku Boyz strike back with a renewed impetus on their new Amapiano-infused collaboration ‘Waka Waka’ (Moz Remix). Stream or download ‘Waka Waka’ (Moz Remix) across all major digital platforms here: https://theplug.ffm.to/zoro-wakawaka-mozaremix

A snazzy song produced by Yung Willis and DJ Tárico, ‘Waka Waka’ (Moz Remix) reinforces Zoro’s original song with the tenor of DJ Tàrico, Nelson Tivane and Preck. The Mozambican trio’s touch is clearly omnipresent, energizing the pulsating production with raspy yelps and lyrics which sit elegantly on the log-drum grooves signature to the fast evolving genre.

But the Nigerian ace isn’t far behind either. He feels right at home next to the Boyz, dropping a performance that fits the dance culture of their music stronghold.

‘Waka Waka’ (Moz Remix) is guaranteed to give listeners a rush of adrenaline this week as it settles in as another super Amapino party tonic that has Zoro and the Yaba Buluku Boyz – the new song’s life essence, at its helm.

French Montana Releases Video For “Bag Season” Ft. Lil Tjay

Published

on

Some artists blur genres, but French Montana blurs borders. His inimitable fusion of classic East Coast rhymes, wavy pop swagger, and international ambition elevated him to the forefront of the game on a global scale.

2017 saw him ascend to superstar status with the blockbuster smash “Unforgettable” [feat. Swae Lee], which cemented him in the “Billion Club” for streaming and earned a nine-times platinum certification from the RIAA. Meanwhile, his sophomore effort, JUNGLE RULES, went and dominated the charts and his 2019 album MONTANA was certified gold immediately upon release. He closed 2020 with the release of the long-anticipated CB5 (Coke Boys 5) mixtape, continuing a legacy he started over a decade ago. Now, he takes it to the next level with his latest effort They Got Amnesia.

At the same time, he has left an indelible mark on communities around the globe. In addition to becoming the very first rap ambassador of Global Citizen, he staunchly supported humanitarian efforts, spanning DACA, the viral Mama Hope #UNFORGETTABLE Dance Challenge, which raised over $500,000-plus, and his Pan-African health and education movement into Morocco with Care Morocco. 2018 also saw him become a U.S. Citizen after emigrating to the South Bronx from Morocco at just 13-years-old.

If anyone can not only change music, but the world at large, it’s French Montana.
