The President of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), Bice Osei Kuffour, popularly known as Obour has listed the establishment of the Ageing Musicians Welfare Funds (AMWeF) as a legacy he wishes to be remembered for.

According to him, he is particularly proud of this achievement during this two-year term as President of the union.

Speaking to Andy Dosty on Day break Hitz on Hitz FM, Obour said:

“It started as a benevolent donation fund. Every six months and give every member ¢200. Then they had about 102 registered members.”

Obour who’s second term as President of MUSIGA is near its end added that AMWef, which was established in 2013 to cater to the needs of veteran musicians in the country, has grown since it’s inception.

According to Obour, each year since its inception in 2017, selected veteran musicians are given ¢10,000 each from the funds.

“In 2017 we chose five people, 15 in 2018 and 6 this year,” Obour said.

Some of the beneficiaries who have been honoured in previous years are Jewel Ackah, AB Crentsil, Nana Ampadu, CK Mann and Obouba JA Adofo.

This year, AMWef will be honoring Professor Kofi Abraham, Naa Amanua, Abirekyieba Kofi Sammy, Kojo Akwaboah, Pat Thomas, and Asabea Kropa.

Obour added that honouring these veteran musicians who have done so much for the industry brings him so much joy.

, “this brings a lot of joy, to the faces of these veterans and it is my prayer it continues with or without me,” he stated.
