Gospel singer, Sonnie Badu has cleared the air about an alleged payment he received to perform at the launch of the Ghana National Cathedral in America.

It has been claimed that the Gospel musician was paid $50,000 for a brief performance at a fundraising ceremony held in America towards the building of Ghana’s National Cathedral.

However, according to the Rockhill Church founder, the report is untrue, and clarified this on social media after a Twitter user drew his attention to the rumor.

In a statement issued by his management, his team revealed the singer was not even given a seat when he attended the launch.

The statement reads;

“It has come to the attention of the management of Dr. SONNIE BADU team that the International Artiste has been named in an alleged National Cathedral issue for charging $50,000 dollars during the launch of the National Cathedral in the USA.
To this, the management wishes to debunk. During the contractual agreement, Dr. Sonnie Badu and his team were informed by the organizers that, it was a charitable event to raise funds for the cathedral, hence the organizers will send him something to give to his team. Management agreed to perform on these terms based on the patriotic nature of the event. The idea behind the invitation of the Artiste to sing, according to the organizers of the event was to raise awareness and solicit funds for the construction of the Cathedral back home.
On the said date of the event. Dr. Sonnie Badu performed with his team but we regret to mention that the organizers of the event disappeared and did not pay any amounts as been alleged. The team, including Dr.Sonnie Badu, were not even given seats to sit after the performance and were made to stand outside because of lack of space. So, the team left after the performance which was lesser than 15 minutes.
The management in the USA did not receive a dime and to date has not received any monies from the organizers. Therefore, the team wishes to dissociate themselves and the International Act. Dr. Sonnie Badu from any National I Cathedral funds reimbursement allegations.
Dr. Sonnie Badu still remains a Ghanaian International Act and is ever poised to support all events that will project the good name of Ghana and nothing more.
This comes to add to many controversies surrounding the government’s decision to build a National Cathedral. According to the NDC and other critics, the NPP government is hiding behind the project to engage in corruption.”
