In the 2020 general elections in Ghana, popular actor and entrepreneur, John Dumelo ran a very successful and impactful campaign towards securing the Ayawaso West Wuogon Parliamentary seat on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The seat was then occupied by Hon. Lydia Alhassan, who faced John Dumelo in a heated competition leading up to the election.

Although John ran a very successful campaign, he lost to Lydia Alhassan at the polls when he garnered 37,778 votes as against Lydia who polled 39,851 votes.

After threatening to contest the results and ask for a recount, John later rescinded his decision and Ms Lydia was declared winner of the seat.

In a Twitter conversation between John and a follower, John has stated emphatically that Hon. Alhassan would lose out on the elections if he decided to run again.

“I pray you win the next AWW election (although your chances are slim). We will be here to assess you critically. All the best,” the Twitter user wrote.

To which John replied;

“If I decide to contest there again, nothing can save MP Lydia….”
