Renowned Ghanaian gospel musician, Hermon Cyrus Kwesi Nhyira Oteng, professionally known as Cwesi Oteng recently revealed that he has never received royalties from the Ghana Music Rights Organization (GHAMRO) despite making music for many years.

The crooner, who is known for his soul-stirring gospel hits, expressed his frustration with GHAMRO’s operations, stating that despite his significant contributions to the music industry, he has not seen any returns in the form of royalties. This raises concerns about the accountability and fairness of the royalty distribution process within GHAMRO.

The ‘I win’ hitmaker made this revelation while speaking with ghanaweekend.com. He astonishingly stated that since the released his first album ‘Blessed Are They’ in 2008, he has never received royalties from GHAMRO.

Cwesi further added that even though he has registered with GHAMRO, he has no interest in receiving his royalties. He explained extensively that the systems in Ghana are not functioning – as a result, he had to focus on other avenues to make money with his music.

GHAMRO, established to ensure that musicians receive fair compensation for the use of their music, has faced criticism in the past for its perceived lack of transparency, and his statement adds another layer to the ongoing conversation about the need for reform and improved governance within GHAMRO to protect the rights and interests of artists.
