Renowned Ghanaian media personality, John Mensah Foley, well known by all as Jay Foley, has revealed that he learnt how to be independent and how to survive in tough times and environments during his days as a student at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3kIT_BbgQcE&t=7s

According to him, even though he wasn’t given the course he wanted at Knust, he managed to pull through  with what he was given, even though it was a course he had no interest in. He further noted that this experience at the popular university taught him how to survive and be independent even in one’s uncomfort zone.

Speaking in an interview on the Asaase Breakfast Show last Wednesday, September 28, 2023, Jay Foley said, “Formal education taught me how to be independent, that is what I picked from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. I didn’t get the course I wanted to do – industry arts – because I have a visual art background”

“But KNUST offered integrated raw art and industry. It was tough in the beginning and we were the third batch, the courses that were offered to me weren’t my interest, except textiles. It was tough. So, being able to be in an uncomfortable space to study something that you don’t want to study, but yet find value in it is what I learnt – survival,” he emphasized.
