Loose Talk: King Ayisoba says Ghana Music Awards should be cancelled

Published

king ayisobaGhanaian multiple international award winner and the most popular traditional artiste of all time King Ayisoba has expressed his aggressive feelings over what he describes as “Corrupt GMA”. King Ayisoba is not happy about Charter House the organizers of the Ghana Music Awards including the President of MUSIGA, Bice Osei Kuffour aka Obour. King Ayisoba described Obour as corrupt and the entire organizing committee of Charter House and noted that they use GMA awards as business platform for themselves alone. In an exclusive interview with him he explained his statements on GMA, Charter House and Obour with anger, “Ghana Music Awards is a corrupt thing and it will not help Ghana music industry to move forward. If you can recollect, I started touring in Europe and many African countries since 2006. And from my experience, Ghana music is not making any improvement on the world market. Malian, Cote d’Ivoire, Senegalese, South African, Jamaican, American Hip-hop music are making a lot of impact on the world market but Ghana is missing out of action. Ghana music is not famous at all in the world.” He continued, “If you look at it critically, Ghana music awards winners don’t perform on bigger stages in Europe. So, I think that the Ghana Music Awards has now turned to business. Music cannot be business. Business in music can bring the industry down. We claim we want peace in Ghana but we’ve turn the music industry into business platform for a few people. That’s why am not happy. How can you give an award to someone who is not a musician and cannot perform live on stage? How can they give award to someone who cannot represent Ghana anywhere and cannot promote Ghana music on the international level? Obour and Charter House are corrupt and that kills artistes’ spirit” Talking of corruption, he stressed “When there’s corruption in the Ghana music industry, peace can never reign. I moved Ghana music forward a little bit during my tour but am not recognized. I performed at 47 festivals during my Europe tour which I think has had some impact on the music industry because I presented myself as a Ghanaian.” He insisted strictly that “If they (Charter House) don’t stop (GMA) something will happen”, he warned. I asked if he is aware that some artistes complain that their colleagues buy awards. He replied “Whether they buy on not, I insist they should stop. If they don’t stop, something will happen” Another part of the GMA galore is the fact that Kaakie won the “Dancehall Artiste of the Year”. He stressed, “I think Kaakie is not a musician. I don’t even see her as a musician. Shatta Wale deserved it because he can perform live and is more serious. Bandana (Shatta Wale) is 100% better than Kaakie”. He disclosed that he will release a new single very soon and said he needs Grammy awards not Ghana Music Award. culled from Ghanaweb]]>

Police brutality is slapping someone cooperating and already in cuffs – musician NY Melody

The Ghana Police Service arrested 29 people on Tuesday after dispersing a violent anti-cost protest in Accra with tear gas. The protest took a turn for the worse when protesters engaged in a violent exchange with police, injuring 12 officers and leading to the arrest of some of the protesters.

Following the incident, many Ghanaians, both inside and outside the country, have come out to condemn the police and protesters’ violent actions.

One video that went viral from the incident showed a police officer beating a handcuffed protester who was clearly not resisting arrest. The video sparked an online outrage, with “Be My Love” singer NY Melody among those quick to condemn the officer’s actions.

The musician later posted a video in which he expressed his disappointment at seeing the video. For him, the police officer was abusing his authority, and slapping someone who was already handcuffed was completely unnecessary.

“We live in a democracy, and in a democracy, we have the right to demonstrate when something bothers us.” The police, also known as “Peace Officers,” are supposed to keep the peace and order no matter what environment they are in.”

Imagine what would have happened if the protesters had retaliated in response to the slap. The cops should have known better; they should have some emotional intelligence. “Police brutality is slapping someone already in cuffs who isn’t resisting arrest.” he said.
