Mark Okraku Mantey to contest for the Ayensuano parliamentary seat in the upcoming NPP primaries

The Deputy Minister of Tourism , Mark Okraku Mantey, has declared his intention to contest in the parliamentary primaries of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for Ayensuano in the Eastern Region of Ghana.

In an interview on Angel FM in Kumasi recently, Mr Mantey stated that his decision to run for the seat is as a result of research, and the call by the constituents for a new face for the NPP in the area.

“We lost the last election, we had that seat for 20 years. We lost to the NDC with 241 votes. Which means they love the party but something went wrong somewhere. During our research, it was revealed the people didn’t like our candidate due to certain utterances and his attitude but we didn’t pay attention and still put him up for elections which the people punished us for by voting us out,” he explained.

According to him, after years of being in politics and studying the game, he thinks he’s the best fit for the new face that the people of Ayensuano so yearn for.

“Somebody must go as a new face and all things considered, I have been around for some time, followed politicians and learnt all the tricks and I know that I can make a lot of changes if I contest for the Member of Parliament. I’ll contest, I’m waiting for June,” he added.

The NPP has announced that parliamentary primaries will be held in February 2024, and nominations will be accepted between December 20, 2023, and January 4, 2024.

Meanwhile, November 4, 2023, has been set as the date for its presidential primaries to select a flagbearer for the general elections in 2024.

However, if more than five candidates file to run in the primaries, the party will call a Special Congress on August 26.
