Mr. Drew Earns Partnership Deal with Boomplay for Alpha Album

Published

on

Ghana’s leading emerging artiste and music sensation, Mr. Drew, has earned a partnership deal with Africa’s largest music streaming platform, Boomplay, for the release of his debut album titled, #Alpha.

The deal will see Boomplay collaborate with Mr. Drew’s Highly Spiritual label and Hyphen GH management to maximise expertiste online and offline promotional activations by Boomplay and its assets for the Alpha album which drops on Friday, 10th September, 2021. Boomplay’s support will include the four main markets it operates in – Nigeria, Kenya, Tanzania and Ghana – and other neighbouring operational territories.

“It’s exciting and humbling at the same time for me to be chosen by the Boomplay brand for such an important partnership for my maiden album, Alpha. I am looking forward to a huge leap for my career and an extensive reach for the album with this partnership,” Mr. Drew reiterated.

The partnership deal with Mr. Drew is an extension of Boomplay’s sponsorship of the 2021 3Music Awards’ “Breakthrough Act of the Year category” which was won by Mr. Drew. Boomplay also powered the innovative performance production of the 2021 emerging batch of Ghanaian artistes of the awards

“Boomplay has always been about helping build a reliable music ecosystem for the African artiste to unlock its full potential. With the emergence and unique wins of African music especially Afrobeats on the global stage, many music stakeholders have taken huge interest in the African market. Most, however, are lurking in the shadows waiting for the ideal moment in the future (high internet penetration and low data cost) to reap benefits off the African music industry.

Nevertheless, as Africa’s biggest streaming platform,  with over 66 million monthly users and a catalogue of 60 million songs and a relevant player, Boomplay has resolved to rather take the plough by its hand to build the needed structures, accelerate industry growth, strike strategic partnerships and direct investments to solve the pertinent issues of the African music industry so that the African artiste and local music industries can be better positioned to benefit now and in the

future.

Partnership with a future superstar talent like Mr. Drew is but a piece in the puzzle to see the immediate to long term results that can impact the local and regional music space from supporting the Ghanaian emerging act as it relates to the nuances of Ghana’s unique music industry. We are hopeful of the prospects, ” a statement shared by Boomplay.

Mr. Drew’s “Alpha” album is very impressive for a debut album. Featuring other artistes like Kidi, Seyi Shay, Kwabena Kwabena, Rebekah and Kelvynboy, and covering genres from highlife to afrobeats, the 12 track is available exclusively on Boomplay for a period before other platforms. Charterhouse, organisers of the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMAs), has announced Telecel Ghana as the new category sponsor of the Music for Good award. The honourary award aims to reward and amplify the positive social change made by musicians beyond their craft.

As part of its ongoing transition to Telecel Ghana, the telecoms giant is rolling out a series of rebranded initiatives including merging the Green Award into the existing Music for Good award. The winner of the Music for Good award will be revealed at the grand climax of the TGMAs on Saturday, 1st June and presented with a recognition plaque and a cheque of 20,000 Ghana cedis towards their impact project.

The Music for Good award will recognise an artiste who released a song in the year under review and went beyond their music to contribute significantly to a social cause, including but not limited to youth mentorship, health, education, economic empowerment, social development, and environmental initiatives.

The decision to merge the Green Award with the existing Music for Good award was reached to celebrate the wider contributions of musicians to their communities, shifting the sole focus from environmental efforts to the broader spectrum of social impact.

Ing. Patricia Obo-Nai, CEO of Telecel Ghana, the headline sponsor of the TGMAs indicated that supporting the Music for Good award shows the TGMAs commitment to celebrating musicians who use their influence to push for positive change and add value to the lives of people and communities.
