dstv explorer (2)Multichoice Ghana Limited, on Monday 16th December 2013 held a media event to launch it next-generation PVR decoder, the DStv Explora, at the Best Western Premiere Hotel in Accra. Guests at the event included the Director of Research, Statistics and Information Management at the Ministry of Communications, Mrs. Patricia Dovi Sampson, the Deputy Director of the National Communications Authority, Mr. Albert Enninful, selected DStv subscribers, accredited dealers and members of the media.

Speaking at the event, the Managing Director of Multichoice Ghana, Mr. Cecil Sunkwa-Mills, said “The DStv Explora decoder is another innovation which bears testament to our continued investment in technology to ensure DStv delivers the best television experience. The Explora forms part of the continent’s fast technology developments and ensures that our subscribers get the best viewer experience.  The absence of high speed broadband access in Ghana and other parts of Africa means delivering content via our satellites remains the most reliable way to ensure our subscribers get the best television, without buffering or waiting for downloads from the internet”.

In his commenton behalf of the Director General of the National Communications Authority (NCA), the Deputy Director of the NCA, Mr. Albert Enninful indicated that “Ghana will switch from analogue to digital transmission by the end of 2014 to enjoy an increased spectrum space for television stations and telecommunication companies, quality sounds and images”.

The Guest of Honor, Mrs. Patricia Dovi Sampson, who represented the Minister of Communications, said “it is refreshing to know the unique features of the DStv Explora decoder and the exciting experience it presents to DStv subscribers. Over the years, Multichoice has contributed to the per capital growth of the nation by recruiting accredited dealers nationwide to collect monthly DStv subscriptions. It is our hope that more accredited dealers are recruited in the future to increase the capital base of such individuals”.  

Obed Boafo of ENEWS.GHANA won the hotly contested DStv Explora quiz and received a DStv Explora decoder as his prize. Five DStv Explora decoders were alos offered to DStv subscribers at the event at a discounted price.

The launch of the DStv Explora heralds an exciting new era for digital television which allows viewers to gain more control and personalise their DStv viewing experience. The Explora introduces additional new features and offers more recording space, providing DStv subscribers with a world of extraordinary entertainment.

With the Explora subscribers can now save up to 220 hours of personal recorded content, view one programme while recording the other, search for their favorite programmes and find out when next they will air again without surfing the TV guide. Additionally, viewers can pause live TV for up to 2 hours, retain buffering when changing channels, conduct word searches and even personalize individual user themes.

Stephen Appiah to contest John Dumelo and Lydia Alhassan

Former Black Stars captain Stephen Appiah is set to enter the political fray by rubbing shoulders with notable personalities in the upcoming general elections.

The former Juventus midfielder is believed to be lacing his boots to face the likes of John Dumelo and the incumbent member of Parliament for the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency Lydia Alhassan.

While Dumelo and Alhassan represents the NDC and NPP respectively, Appiah is expected feature in the elections as an independent candidate.

This was revealed by the Spokesperson of the Ayew family Fiifi Tackie via X on Friday afternoon.

“Stephen Appiah to contest Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency as an independent Parliamentary candidate,” he wrote.

If Stephen Appiah affirms the reported news, he will be following in the footsteps of other renowned figures in Ghana football who have indulged in politics recently.

Earlier this year, all-time top scorer of the Black Stars Asamoah Gyan was appointed as the sub-committee chair of Youth and Sports in the campaign committee of Dr Bawumia, the flagbearer of the ruling New Patriotic Party.

In acceptance of the appointment, Gyan emphasised the need to share hos ideas garnered through experience in the game.

Another figure in Ghana football who recently announced his intention to engage in partisan politics is Kwesi Nyantakyi, former Ghana Football Association (GFA).

The former football administrator showed up as one of the candidates to contest in the NPP primaries for the Ejisu constituency following the demise of incumbent John Kumah.

However, it didn’t pan out well for the former Wa All Stars owner as he lost disappointingly.

He garnered a paltry 35 votes after close to 1,081 delegates had cast their votes in the parliamentary primary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) held in the Ejisu Constituency on April 13.
