Prof. Kwabena Bediako named among 40 scientists to receive a $450,000 grant from the Young Investigator Research Program

Professor Kwabena Bediako, an Assistant Professor of Chemistry at the University of California, Berkeley (UCB) has been named as one of the 40 scientists in the USA to receive grants from the Air Force Office of Scientific Research. Approximately $17.8 million in grants have been awarded to scientists and engineers from 30 research institutions and businesses who submitted winning research proposals through the Air Force’s Young Investigator Research Program (YIP).

YIP recipients receive a three year grant totalling $450,000. Prof. Kwabena Bediako is a product of the Akosombo International School. His degrees includes B.S., Chemistry, Calvin College, 2008; M.S., Chemistry, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, 2013; Ph.D., Chemistry, Harvard University, 2015. He loves football and supports the Ghana Black Stars and Manchester United.

The YIP is open to United States citizens and/or permanent residents’ who are scientists and engineers at United States research institutions who received Ph.D. or equivalent degrees in the last seven years showing exceptional ability and promise for conducting basic research of military interests.

The objective of this program is to foster creative basic research in science and engineering, enhance early career development of outstanding young investigators, and increase opportunities for the young investigators to recognize the Air Force mission and the related challenges in science and engineering.
