Shatta Wale and Bulldog settle defamation case out of Court
The Accra High Court has accepted an out-of-court settlement agreement in the defamation lawsuit between dancehall artiste Shatta Wale, whose real name is Charles Nii Armah Mensah, and his former manager Lawrence Asiamah Hanson, popularly known as Bulldog.
During the court proceedings, both parties’ lawyers informed the court about the agreed-upon settlement terms, avoiding the need for a full trial.
In the previous court session on June 13, 2023, Shatta Wale’s legal team requested a two-week adjournment to finalize the terms of the settlement. The court, presided over by Justice Joseph Agyemang Adu Owusu, granted the adjournment, leading to the recent hearing on June 27, 2023.
Lawyer Dr. Justice Srem Sai, representing Bulldog, informed the court that the parties had successfully completed the settlement terms. Consequently, the lawyer requested that the court adopt the terms of settlement as a consent judgment.

During the proceedings, Major Selasie Atuwo, Shatta Wale’s lawyer, also conveyed the unfortunate news of the passing of Madam Cynthia Quarcoo, a managing partner at the firm handling the case. Madam Quarcoo reportedly succumbed to a brief illness on Tuesday.
The legal dispute originated from a social media post made by Shatta Wale last November, in which he accused Bulldog of involvement in the murder of Fennec Okyere, who served as the manager for musician Kwaw Kese. Shatta Wale further made additional defamatory allegations against Bulldog. In response, Bulldog filed a lawsuit, claiming damages for the malicious and defamatory statements.
With the adoption of the settlement terms, the lawsuit has been resolved outside of court, saving both parties from a protracted legal battle.
The resolution of this high-profile case highlights the efficacy of alternative dispute resolution methods, such as out-of-court settlements, in mitigating the time, costs, and public exposure associated with legal proceedings.
